Steve Plant

Secretary

Steve Plant is a lifelong resident of Connecticut who spent the better part of his youth fishing in Western Long Island Sound.  His dad was a biology teacher and gave Steve his earliest taste of the marine environment. His parents were avid botanists and mycologists.

Steve graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a business degree and spent the first 15 years of his professional life on Wall Street. Because of his interest in fishing and fisheries, at one of the firms he worked for he did analysis on several aquaculture investments, and eventually took a job at one of them (Aquafuture).

Working at Aquafuture (now Australis) helped Steve establish the four rules of aquaculture and set him on a path to find a way to actually make an aquaculture venture commercially successful.  Through sheer chance, he ended up meeting Jim Markow in the spring of 1999 and started Connecticut Cultured Oysters shortly thereafter.

Steve lives in Pawcatuck, Conn., with his wife Jill, daughter Sydney and son Asher.
