Katherine McGlade

Katherine McGlade owns and operates Slash Creek Oyster Farm in Hatteras, North Carolina with her husband, Spurgeon, a North Carolina native. They have been selling oysters to restaurants and retail establishments since the farm began producing oysters in 2016.

She is also Principal of Seachange consultants, occasionally working on coastal issues for private industry and government clients. Katherine has an undergraduate degree from Columbia University in New York and a master’s degree in Coastal Environmental Management from Duke University. She has been a board member of the North Carolina Coastal Federation since 2009, most recently heading up its Northeast Advisory panel.

Katherine grew up on the coast of Connecticut and likes to combine visits to family with stops at oyster farms up the coast to learn more about how others farm and to bring that knowledge back to her farm in Hatteras.
