I own a small oyster aquaculture enterprise on the Western Shore of the
Chesapeake, with an initial focus on supplying products for citizen-based
restoration programs (spat-on-shell, unique equipment).
My "Johnny Oyster Seed" enterprise is growing rapidly and has developed into
something of a flywheel that supports my ventures into more conventional
avenues of investment/growth. I'm currently pursuing the development of a
commercial shucked product by adapting certain West Coast and Gulf Coast
techniques for extensive on-bottom plantings.
Additionally, these last several years have seen me in regular attendance at
meetings of the Maryland Aquaculture Coordinating Council
(MACC) as well as the Oyster Advisory Commission (OAC). Both of these
entities were promulgated by the Maryland General Assembly and tasked with
providing guidance to assist with policy development.
Lastly, I've been extremely impressed by the ECSGA; the breadth of the
membership's collective knowledge and willingness to share is truly
inspiring. I'm hopeful that I can lend a hand to the organization in some
small fashion.
